Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering and
Materials Science, Yale University
As an undergraduate, Diana Qiu studied Physics at Yale University.
She had an early connection to UC Davis, participating in the summer
Research Experiences for Undergraduates program at UC Davis after her
first year of college. She worked with Professor Daniel Cox on the
structure and aggregation of proteins. She completed a PhD in
condensed matter theory at UC Berkeley and did postdoctoral work at
Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. In 2020 she returned to Yale as an
Assistant Professor in the Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science
department. Her career there has begun with a collection of prestigious
research grants: DOE Early Career Award, a Packard Fellowship, and an
NSF CAREER award. Her scientific focus is on calculating properties
of materials well enough to identify or design good candidates for
practical applications.
